Keeping Track of Martial Arts Students' Progress [Video]
Simply having a belt structure in your martial arts school doesn’t mean you automatically know where all of your students are. Tracking progress and knowing when individuals should test for their next belt can be a little tricky. However, by defining training benchmarks and utilizing management tools, you can keep track of everyone’s pacing.
You probably already have a curriculum in place and know what skills students should have before advancing to the next belt. Note how many of the required techniques each student knows, and document how well they perform those moves.
Management software that lets you take notes in students’ files can be a huge help – it’ll keep you organized and even let you schedule belt tests. Of course, you should also talk to your students face-to-face to get a feel for how they’re doing.
