How to prepare for the TikTok ban.
The incredibly popular social media platform, TikTok, is soon to have its privileges in the United States decided upon by the U.S. Supreme Court. The platform faces a nationwide ban after TikTok owner ByteDance was ordered to sell TikTok to a U.S. company by Jan. 19, 2025.
The Supreme Court will begin hearing oral arguments on Jan. 17, 2025 as The U.S. Department of Justice claims TikTok has access to American data and is sharing it with the Chinese government to manipulate American opinion through the app’s content. TikTok claims the government has no proof that security risk has occurred and says the ban would violate First Amendment rights for themselves and millions of Americans. We all await the Supreme Court’s decision or a possible sale, but should prepare for the TikTok ban regardless.
What Happens if TikTok is Banned?
If TikTok is banned by the Supreme Court and there is not a sale in the next coming days as this is being written, the app will be removed from American app stores and U.S. internet service providers will be told to block access to the site.
Nevertheless, the app will not disappear from your device if downloaded, but the services may be limited or unavailable with no updates expected and uncertainty on its usability. With that in mind, now is the time to act, prepare for the TikTok ban, and secure everything you need before January 19.
How this Affects Martial Arts Schools
You may or may not have a TikTok account for either your martial arts school or a personal account for sharing martial arts tips and knowledge. If you do, a TikTok ban would take away a great marketing resource where quick eye-catching videos can spread quickly, helping to grow your business or personal brand. In your case, martial arts education is an offering where short videos of moves, kicks, punches, etc. can attract the younger audience and interest them with the idea of joining your program.
Without TikTok, you could lose your connection to possible clients who keep up with your business or your day-to-day life. And if you’ve been using it consistently for a while now, you’ve probably uploaded a lot of content that you’re worried about losing. Fortunately, we’ve got you covered. In preparation, you need to take the necessary steps as soon as possible to secure all the content you’ve put on the platform so you you can potentially repurpose it elsewhere and keep your base engaged and interested.
